Art Smart Theme now with Bootstrap 3

New Art Smart theme published

Art Smart now uses the Bootstrap 3 framework. I moved the main menu to the top of the page and made the menu toggle prominent so it stands out on mobile phones. The menu is also fixed, (always visible in the browser). My attempt to maintain the sidebar on small screens has so far failed – it still wraps to the bottom of the screen. The next plan is to create new galleries with a single thumbnail link along with post links to the various categories. Fitting all the images coherently needs more work.

Rebuilding the Art Smart theme

From the Gumby Framework to Bootstrap

Since the Gumby Framework is practically dead I’ve decided to switch my main theme over to Twitter’s Bootstrap. I’m not 100% happy with how this site displays on mobile devices. I’ve decided to fine-tune the layout. I’m also switching to a more colorful, easier to read menu.

Through much trial and error I’ve set up a local git repository with Bower and Grunt. I’m using bootstrap-sass-official (I like Sass over Less) and am pretty much forgoing the javascript components. Since I use Font Awesome 4 Menus there’s no need for Glyphicons either.

The new changes should be published by mid July.

Gumby Framework – Journeys End

A couple of years ago I discovered the Gumby Framework, a responsive CSS project. After moving from Foundation to Bootstrap I settled on Gumby for it’s simplicity. Okay, so the mobile aspect is not as detailed as the other two major frameworks it still works pretty good.

Then I go to the website and I get this…

It’s a sad day, but Digital Surgeons has decided to retire Gumby Framework in order to focus our efforts on making other awesome things for the web. Thank you so much to our awesome community for all of the years of loyalty and contribution.

I built a lot of cool stuff with Gumby and I’ll miss it. Foundation 3 drives me nuts so I’m back to Twitter Bootstrap, which is pretty cool too.

The Island City Art Market

Today I helped hang the exhibit for the “ART MARKET” at Art Gallery 21. This exhibit will run from June 1st to August 31st, and includes the work of 18 local artists. Promotion can be found on Facebook, Instagram, and Pinterest. There will be an art social on Friday, June 19th from 7 to 9 PM.

Yours truly will have two watercolors on display, Miravet and Haystack After Sunset.
